Police dodge stripper case - again - Click for larger version Male stripper, Stuart Kennedy, better known as Sergeant Eros, was again denied the right to clear his name after his latest trial was postponed for the second time at Aberdeen Sheriff Court.

Kennedy, 26 who was arrested for the seventh time last October whilst he stood on Union Street, Aberdeen said:

"I just feel so let-down by the justice system.  All I want is the chance for the facts of the case to come out, which will prove my innocence and to be allowed to move on with my life.  When the case is eventually heard, the dirty tricks used by Grampian Police and the Fiscal just so that they can try and protect their own reputations will become apparent.  I haven't done anything wrong but for another 4 months I will have to live on bail and with this case hanging over me.  I wouldn't wish this campaign of harassment, intimidation and court frustration upon anyone."

Kennedy was first arrested in March 2007 when two female officers watched his act as a stripping policeman before arresting him for being in possession of an offensive weapon.

The case was later thrown out of the local Sheriff court; however the Fiscal’s Office appealed the decision only for the High Court in Edinburgh to also throw out the case.

To date, Kennedy has been arrested seven times, spent 125 hours in Police custody and around 30 days in court with no convictions.

Kennedy added:

“Unfortunately, in Scotland we do not have the luxury of an independent body to investigate complaints against the police as they have south of the border. Nor do we have the right to have a solicitor present during questioning by the police.  These are fundamental rights that the rest of the UK are afforded, and Grampian Police’s behaviour towards me over the past 25 months is a shining example of why we do need better protection for those arrested or detained by police. I have been contacted by numerous individuals who have experienced similar problems with the police who have had their lives deeply affected in one way or another as a direct result.

“To allow a police force to simply investigate itself just isn’t good enough. I know of many people who have submitted complaints to the police only to have to wait up to 12 months for a whitewash response that says nothing more than their complaints were investigated and there was no evidence for them to be upheld. We need a definitive and radical look at the protection of individuals in this country when it comes to the powers of the police."
