SOMETHING FUNNY’S GOING ON AT THE PIAZZA…

Security guard sees red as he spends all day in a bath of tomatoes to raise money for Comic Relief

This Friday March 13th, The Piazza Shopping Centre are delighted to be taking part in Red Nose Day 2009, and will be “doing something funny for money” in hope that generous buddies will dig deep to help Comic Relief raise money for vulnerable and disadvantaged people in the UK and Africa.

While celebs such as Cheryl Cole and Gary Barlow have been climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, and a whole host of familiar faces from our TV screens have been taking part in ‘Let’s Dance for Comic Relief’, closer to home one brave Buddie will be facing his own challenge - as he spends the day in a bath full of chopped tomatoes to raise money for the charity.

Peter Edgar, Security Officer at the Piazza Shopping Centre, will be submerged in tomatoes from 11am – 5pm on the day, and is to raise lots of smiles – and donations – from Paisley shoppers passing through the mall.

Maureen Hill, Piazza Centre Manager, commented:

“Doing something funny for money is a great idea – and we’re sure that the bath of chopped tomatoes will go down well. As all proceeds will go to Comic Relief, the tomatoes seem very appropriate!

“The bath, which was kindly donated by B&Q Paisley, will be situated in the centre of the Mall, right next to the Post Office, so that Peter can have as large an audience as possible – and we’re hoping that shoppers will also want to help us fill the bath by buying a tin and topping it up! Somerfield have also provided us with over 400 tins for the event, free of charge – so every penny will go towards Comic Relief.”

To kick start the proceedings, Councillor Brian Lawson will be tipping in a tin of his own when the event begins at 11am.
