Scotland's Speciality Food Show

Scotland's Speciality Food Show - Click for larger version Two of Scotland’s finest food companies, Gigha Halibut and Kensington's Wines Direct, team up for Scotland’s Speciality Food Show.

Visitors to the show are being challenged to find the perfect food and wine match by trying to select exactly the right wine to accompany smoked Gigha Halibut.

Gigha Halibut is a sustainable, organically fed supreme quality fresh fish product which is served in some of the best restaurants around the world every day.

Kensingtons Wines Direct, Scotland’s newest online wine retailer launching at the show, sources wines only from traditional or family-run wine producers around the world.

“We believe this is a match made in heaven. Both these products grace tables at the finest restaurants in the world and we are proud to be able to pair up for the show. Our halibut is the best halibut can be as it is reared in spacious tanks on the island of Gigha so quality is consistently good.

“I have certainly taken great care in hatching and growing these fish and I am pleased that they will be enjoyed with wines that have had an equal amount of attention lavished upon them,” said Alastair Barge, Managing Director of Gigha Halibut.

Kensingtons Wines Direct have selected three wines, from Alsace, Spain and Uruguay for the challenge.

Lynsay Falconer, managing director of Kensingtons Wines Direct, said: “Gigha Halibut has a wonderful and delicate flavour so matching the perfect wine is a challenge. One of our choices is a white Rioja, very unusual, but we feel the confident oaked flavour is coupled with sufficient acidity to offset the richness of the fish. The almost smoky Pinot Gris from Alsace may help to enhance the delicate taste of the Gigha Halibut. By contrast the Viognier from Uruguay is a very light wine from a wonderful small vineyard that produces consistently great wines. All three are very different so we will leave the final decision to those up for the challenge.”

Kensingtons Wines will make a final wine match choice and there will be a prize of some wine and Gigha halibut for the winning challenger at stand FH 235.

The Speciality Food Show takes place at the SECC from Sunday 25 January until Tuesday 27 January. For press passes please register free online at www.scotlandsspecialityfoodshow.com
