Councillor Debra Storr, who was one of four councillors who opposed Donald Trump’s Aberdeenshire golf course planning application has resigned from Aberdeenshire Council Liberal Democrat Group.
Councillor Debra Storr tonight announced that she has left the Aberdeenshire Council Liberal Democrat Group with immediate effect. She said: "With regret I have decided that I no longer wish to be part of the Liberal Democrat Group on Aberdeenshire Council." "The behaviour of the Group's leadership has become increasingly intolerant and illiberal over the past year as it has pursued a relentless witch-hunt against councillors who were within their rights to vote with their conscience on the Menie planning application. "The last straw for me was the Group's decision to consider excluding me for defending the liberal principle of 'innocent until proved otherwise'. The Group met to decide on whether to exclude me yesterday at 5.30pm, but I was not able to be present. Despite my asking, more than 24 hours later I have not been told of the outcome. This treatment is intolerable, disrespectful, undemocratic and well beyond the bounds of civilised behaviour.” "I have accordingly resigned from the Group." Cllr Debra Storr remains committed to working for her constituents and for Liberal Democrat principles.
