Damage being repaired at Go Ape

Damage being repaired at Go Ape - Click for larger version Repairs are well underway at Aberfoyle's Go Ape site after vandals struck last Friday night causing disruption to customers of the high wire adventure course.

During a routine daily safety check prior to the course opening for business on Saturday morning, staff discovered that several zip wires had been severed by vandals leaving the course inoperable for several days.

Go Ape chief executive, Tristram Mayhew said:

“I am pleased to say that repairs are under way and the course should be back to normal by the end of this week.

“As a matter of routine all Go Ape courses are checked thoroughly by staff each day before they can be used by any member of the public. It was during these routine checks that the issues at Aberfoyle came to light.

"This type of damage is disappointing to our customers who had planned to visit Go Ape at Aberfoyle over the weekend and during the early part of this week and we are sorry for the inconvenience that this has caused our customers. The Go Ape course at Aberfoyle has been enormously popular this year with a third of all customers travelling from Glasgow to swing through the trees.”

Meanwhile Central Scotland Police confirmed that they are investigating the vandalism at the Go Ape site and have appealed anyone with information to contact them.

Chief Inspector Kevin Findlalter, who is leading the investigation, said:

The consequences could have been serious or fatal if the damage had not been picked up during routine checks by the centre’s staff. Whoever is doing this has no regard for the consequences. It could have been a child or an adult who was on the wires and would have been injured.

“We are treating this matter extremely seriously and we are working closely with the company and Foresty Commision.”

The incident occurred sometime between 6.30pm on Friday September 5 and 7.50am on Saturday September 6.

Anyone with information can contact Central Scotland Police on 01786 456000 or information can be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
