The man who said 'no' to Donald Trump's planning application, Councillor Martin Ford, has called the subsequent actions of Aberdeenshire Council as 'unwise' and 'rediculous' following the publication of the Scottish Parliament's Local Government and Communities report.
Councillor Martin Ford, who was removed from his position as Chair from Aberdeenshire Council's Infrastructure Services Committee after he used his casting vote to turn down Donald Trump's planning application said:
"The Local Government and Communities Committee report confirms that proper procedures were followed by Aberdeenshire Council in the run up to and at the Infrastructure Services Committee meeting of 29 November 2007. It confirms that that Committee was, under the Council's Scheme of Delegation, entitled to take the decision on the Menie application and that it had the final say. This was always my understanding of the position. It is what I said at the time.
"I am pleased to note the comment by the Local Government and Communities Committee that the decision by Aberdeenshire Council on 12 December to support the application is not relevant in terms of planning law. I queried at that meeting whether it was proper for the Council to be discussing the application.
"The Local Government and Communities Committee report also confirms that there were valid reasons on which to base a refusal of the Menie application that could have been defended. Again, this has always been my position. The Infrastructure Services Committee decision was sound.
"There is no criticism in the Local Government and Communities Committee's report of my chairing of the Infrastructure Services Committee meeting or my conduct otherwise. The Council's precipitate action in removing me from the chairmanship of the Infrastructure Services Committee, which I described at the time as 'unwise', now looks ridiculous."
