The GO group which incorporates Glasgow Opportunities enterprise trust has been officially appointed the Representative Office of the Investment Promotion Agency of Kosovo (IPAK) in Scotland.
The GO group, which is Scotland’s most successful enterprise trust, has been supporting economic development in Kosovo for two years and the new Representative Office at GO will offer huge benefits for both countries.
The Kosovo Minister for Trade and Industry Bujar Dugolli said:
“Kosovo has suffered the effects of years of neglect and has had to deal with war. Both factors have destroyed our agriculture and industrial bases, and we are rebuilding, as well as dealing with the transformation from a centrally planned economy. As a result we need the transfer of knowledge that more advanced countries can offer.  We believe we have something to offer our partners and that relationship will have strong benefits for both sides.”
Minister Dugolli, who is tipped to be the next Prime Minister of Kosovo, added:
“There are many striking parallels between Kosovo and Scotland. We share the desire for independence with many Scottish Nationalists; we both have new parliaments with limited powers and we are both learning the business of government. Most importantly, the twinning arrangement allows us effectively to use EU funds to buy much needed expertise from Scotland, while at the same time, promoting the benefits of Kosovo’s unique position in Central Europe as a destination for Scottish investors”
IPAK’s chief executive officer, Ejup Fejza said:
“Kosovo is ready and open for business. We seek know how transfer and investment through joint ventures, partnerships, licensing agreements franchises and trade linkages as well as direct investment. We think that we have many natural advantages in the areas of mining and metals, decorative stone, food processing and tourism, as well as providing free trade access to the enormous markets of Central Europe through our membership of the Central European Free Trade Area.”
GO group chief executive, Isabell Majewsky added:
“This is a marvellous opportunity for Glasgow because it provides a unique opening for potential investors to have a one-stop-shop access to a wide range of resources and information. For the past twenty four years, the GO group has been at the forefront of building new and supporting existing businesses in Scotland. Our main strengths have traditionally been in building support systems for new businesses and developing existing businesses. This has produced twenty four years of knowledge and examples of good practice that we can share with IPAK and for Kosovo to replicate the successes we have had here in Glasgow.  We now have the opportunity to use those essential skills to provide real practical support in the re-establishment of Kosovo economy.
Isabell Majewsky continued:
“From our work with IPAK over the past two years we are aware of the challenges faced by Kosovo in fully re- establishing it’s economy however, there is a really strong will, desire and commitment for it to achieve a healthy and vibrant economic climate - the GO group is very proud to play a constructive and long term part in that process.”
The GO group has organised a number of study tours for business representatives from Kosovo which will provide a first hand opportunity for the visitors to experience business good practice throughout Scotland. The GO group is already sharing other ideas and initiatives with IPAK including its highly acclaimed Business Map management development programme.
