New Chief Executive for GO Delighted with 2014 Games Bid Win

New Chief Executive for GO Delighted with 2014 Games Bid Win - Click for larger version The new chief executive of the GO group, which incorporates Glasgow Opportunities enterprise trust, Isabell Majewsky, has welcomed the success of Glasgow's bid for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Isabell said: "I am delighted at the success of the Glasgow bid to host the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Not only will the Games bring huge sporting opportunities for the city, they will bring a wide range of business, job and inward investment openings for Glasgow and Scotland. I am very proud to be taking up the helm of one of Britain's biggest and most successful enterprise trusts at such an exciting time for Glasgow."


Isabell, who has just taken up her post at the GO group continued: "There are already so many exciting projects underway within the GO group and the news that Glasgow will be hosting the Commonwealth Games in 2014 will open the door for many more opportunities and developments for new and established businesses throughout Glasgow and beyond. The GO group created 6,000 new businesses last year which accounted for 15% of all of Scotland new start-ups as well as working with 1,500 innovators."


Isabell Majewsky, who has a strong background in economic development, is the second permanent chief executive officer of the GO group which has been operating for twenty four years added: "The GO group has an historic reputation for delivering innovative and robust support programmes, as well as bringing to market Scotland's intellectual capital. I am particularly keen to build on those established successes and to further explore new opportunities both within Glasgow, throughout Scotland and the UK as well as developing the GO group's international presence."


Isabell Majewsky comes to the GO group from her previous post at the University of Warwick where she founded Connect Midlands in early 2001 which helped technology companies raise over £100 million of new finance and equity. Other previous roles for Isabell include a post within the Singapore Economic Development Board; Management Strategy Ltd; Lothian and Edinburgh Enterprise Ltd. Having studied at Stirling University and worked as a project manager for Glasgow University's Nemoquest and for Lothian and Edinburgh Enterprise Ltd, Isabell is no stranger to Scotland.


Chair of the GO Group, Bill Fleming said: "I am delighted to welcome Isabell to her new post here at the GO group and to offer her the Board's full support. Isabell brings with her an abundance of knowledge and insight, as well as immense experience which will help the GO group continue to move forward locally, nationally and internationally.


"I would like to thank the GO group's previous chief executive, Agnes Samuel who retired earlier this year, for all her hard work and also to Sue Lindsay for her role as interim chief executive."
